1. Installing
Install from Google Play; the app is not distributed anywhere else. It needs Android 6.0 or later, and Google Play checks your particular phone before it lets you install.
Keep it on internal storage. If the app sits on an SD card, Android may not offer its widget at all, because widgets have to be available the moment the phone starts, and removable storage is not.
There is nothing to sign up for. The app has no accounts.
2. Adding a note to the home screen
Opening the app from the app drawer is not how you get a note onto the home screen. On Android, widgets are added from the home screen itself.
Touch and hold an empty space on the home screen → Widgets → find Another Note → touch and hold it → slide it into place → lift your fingerIf the app offers an Add to home screen button and nothing happens when you tap it, use the route above instead. Some launchers do not accept widget requests from apps.
3. Writing
Tap the note on the home screen to open it. The Text tab is for typing, emoji included. There is an undo for typing, so a slip of the thumb is not a disaster.
The note is short by design. It is a widget, and whatever you write has to fit the space you give it on the home screen (section 7).
4. Drawing
Switch to the Drawing tab to write by hand or sketch. The tools run down the left edge: undo, move, pens, stroke size, colour, and a bin to clear the drawing. A small preview in the corner shows how the note will look on the home screen.
Text and drawing can be combined: a typed list with a hand-drawn arrow, or a doodle with a caption.
5. Style and paper
Tap the note → Settings → Style and Paper colorStyle is the design: sticky note, plain paper, notebook paper, blackboard and the other designs, plus the themed styles (holidays, food, animals, sports and more) and the pins. Paper color changes the colour within a style, and Opacity lets the wallpaper show through.
6. Text and fonts
Further down the same Settings screen:
- Text color and highlighter colour;
- Typeface, including several handwriting-style fonts;
- Text size and Line spacing, both of which can be left on Auto;
- Text alignment and Word wrap.
7. Resizing
Touch and hold the note → lift your finger → drag the dots on the outline → tap outside the noteIf it will not resize: some home-screen themes do not support resizable widgets, so try the phone’s default theme. Or change the size setting:
Tap the note → Settings → Size → STATICIf the note is cut off at the edges, adjust Widget margins in the same Settings screen. Auto usually works; launchers that pad widgets unevenly need a manual value.
8. Image quality
Image Quality sets how detailed the note looks on the home screen. If a note suddenly looks smaller after an update, the developer’s advice is:
Tap the note → Settings → Image Quality → VERY GOOD or GOOD9. Several notes
Add the widget again for every note you want on the home screen; each has its own text, drawing and style. A few phones do not allow more than one copy of the same widget. On those, only one note can be shown at a time, and the app cannot change that.
10. History: getting a note back
Removing a widget from the home screen does not have to lose what was on it. The app keeps a history of notes on the phone.
Add a new note to the home screen → tap it → Menu → History… → choose the old note → DUPLICATEHistory is not a backup
It lives on the same phone as the notes. Uninstalling the app, resetting the phone or losing it takes the history with it. If a note really matters, share it to yourself as an image (section 11) or keep it somewhere else too.
11. Sharing
A note can be shared as an image through the phone’s normal share menu: to Facebook, X, a messaging app, email, or your own photo gallery. Google Play’s rating notes that “users interact”, and sharing what you make is the feature in the app that matches that description. Nothing is shared unless you share it.
12. Removing the ads
The free version shows ads. The ad-free upgrade is bought once inside the app, and Google Play handles the payment.
The terms, in full
- It is a one-time purchase, listed on Google Play at $1.99. The price shown by Google Play when you buy, in your currency with any tax, is the one that applies.
- It is not a subscription. It does not renew and there is nothing to cancel.
- Google Play records it against your Google account. On a new phone, sign in to Google Play with the same account.
- Refund requests go to Google Play, under its refund policy.
13. Troubleshooting
The widget is not in the widget list
Check the app is installed on internal storage, not an SD card (section 1).
The widget keeps showing “loading”
Your phone is stopping the app from starting in the background, so the widget never gets drawn. Allow auto-start for Another Note Widget. On the phones where this comes up most:
Xiaomi, Redmi, Poco
Security app → Permissions → Autostart → enable Another Note Widget Settings → Apps → Manage apps → Another Note Widget → Other permissions → enable “Display pop-up windows while running in the background”Oppo
Security center → Privacy permissions → Auto-run management (or Startup manager) → enable Another Note WidgetOn other brands, look for “auto start”, “background activity” or battery optimisation settings for the app.
The note will not resize
Switch to the phone’s default home-screen theme, or set Size to STATIC (section 7).
The note is cut off
Change Widget margins in the note’s Settings.
The note shrank after an update
Set Image Quality to Very Good or Good (section 8).
I cannot add a second note
Some devices allow only one copy of a widget (section 9).
